Introduction
Possessing a BA in Chinese Language and Literature, my career has been varied but also focused around the use of Mandarin Chinese. Early in my career, I was responsible for developing marketing material for a tourism firm in Beijing, involving creating engaging content in both written and visual form.
After moving to Dubai, I began a new phase in my career involving teaching and translation. During this time, I taught both one-to-one lessons with students at Berlitz language school, delivered after-school language activities to primary schools and taught on the IGCSE and A level Mandarin courses at Dubai Repton School. I also launched my own Mandarin language service website, Mandarin Matters, offering translation and teaching to the Dubai community.
More recently, I have become interested in the translation of classic literary works. I have completed four English to Chinese works to date: Frank Norris’ The Third Circle, W.B. Yeats’ The Celtic Twilight, Jack London’s The Scarlet Plague and The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy.
